Our History: Safelink Technologies Ltd started as a maize milling company in 2018 with its operations in Lower eastern county of Makueni. The county is semi-arid with unpredictable rain seasons and high temperatures. The main nutritional source of cheap and accessible vitamins and minerals for larger population is locally grown vegetables and fruits by farmers which are mainly rain grown during start of every rain season.
The county has two rainy seasons, short and long rainy seasons with the short rainy season being more reliable. With no modern preservation and limited value addition methods of fruits and vegetables in county, they only become available, accessible and affordable within two months after harvest season with limited and expensive or without the nutritious plant products which are their main source of vitamins and minerals within 10 months of the year.
Main eating habits are carbohydrates and plant protein with maize or cassava flour porridge for breakfast, Boiled maize and beans for lunch and thick porridge (Ugali) for dinner.
This diet expose school children and vulnerable population to malnutrition because available fruits and vegetables during dry season are unaffordable and purchasing power to supplement their diets with them is low.
At Safelink Technologies Ltd we studied the agro climatic conditions, economic status, lifestyle and singled the Gap in vitamins and minerals deficiency among school children and vulnerable population in the county. This Gap informed the model of our company vision.
We shall partner with farmers in the county for purchase/supply of maize, sorghum, millet, bio fortified beans, cow peas and green grams. Our transport cost of the raw materials will be low from within the county, the prices to farmers will be competitive and prices of finished products will be affordable and competitive in the market.
Some of our key performance indicators will be evidence based data of absenteeism by children in partner primary and secondary schools, number of patients registered in local clinics/dispensaries with malnutrition diseases.
We have dedicated technical team well trained and experienced in maize milling process, Fortification process, Grading of cereals and pulses, Aflatoxin in cereals and pest control to ensure production of finished products that meet requirements of the East Africa standard and KEBS.
